The Logitech MK270 Wireless also boasts very long life for the batteries, with a 36 month or 3 year keyboard life, and 18 month or 1 and a half year mouse life, both units hooking up to the same receiver.
Opening the box, there’s just the shown components inside, so that’s the receiver wedged in the flap, the mouse, and the keyboard itself. Taking the mouse out of the plastic is easy. The keyboard takes a little work but isn’t very hard. Out comes the keyboard and the warranty card.
Both the Logitech MK270 Wireless mouse and keyboard have battery inserts that keep the power off until you pull them out. You can pull them out easily, plug in the receiver and start working right away, you probably spend longer cleaning a spot on your table or desk than doing setup here.
Logitech MK270 is really great
Overall the first impression is really great. I mean, it’s a bit weird saying that about a plastic keyboard but this is the second one I’ve purchased now and the Logitech MK270 Wireless is better than the last. And I really like that the media buttons at the top match the dark grey surround accent, good decision on Logitech’s part to make them stand out just a little.
I like the look of the mouse, and a nice feature is that inside the battery compartment, there’s a storage spot for the receiver if you take your Logitech set to go. The mouse takes one double A battery.
The mouse also has some plastic covering the glossy grey plastic around the whole outside. A nice touch, and not too hard to remove. The keyboard battery compartment is easy to open, and houses two triple A batteries inside. Easy enough to replace the cover.
Now I’m actually using the Logitech MK270 Wireless keyboard and mouse to write this review, the mouse I find pretty sturdy and decent considering it’s size. Which is really quite small for my large hands, it doesn’t have the same comfort as my older M310t which fits my hands better, though seems to eat through batteries faster than it’s similar 18 month rating.
The M185 weighs in at just 74 grams including battery, 50 grams without. The keyboard’s build quality seems decent and similar to the last generation.
And it’s really nice to find media keys on a wireless keyboard. You can re-assign functions to keys in the Logitech software which you can download from their site.
The thickness of the Logitech MK270 Wireless keyboard measures 21 millimeters, including the rubber foot… which is nice and soft and very grippy. And testing the weight, the keyboard is about 510 grams, about 10 grams heavier than the older model.
The underside is simple, but has two feet which prop up the keyboard. And they snap back easily.
Now the keyboard has plastic flex but it isn’t flimsy, but because of the flex it may not sit exactly level. An easy fix, just flex carefully a little in one direction or the other and the problem is solved! My old K270 keyboard didn’t have this issue but that may just be due to the couple of years I’ve had it.
Logitech MK270 is well made, inexpensive
I do like the looks of the new M185 bundled in the combo, however it is quite small, and my older larger blue M310t fits my hand much better. Although considering I’m using it to control Kodi very occasionally, I guess if you don’t have a lot of room the small size can be a benefit.
OK so now it’s time for the Logitech MK270 Wireless keyboard typing test. Sounds decent, just a little more clicky than the last generation, but not much louder. And now for the mouse, average loudness, clicky, and decent. The middle mouse button is a little loud. Numpad test for those doing accounting.
Useful, well made and very inexpensive wireless combo with the added bonus of being able to use OTG with Android for a wireless keyboard and mouse combo on the go!
The Logitech MK270R Wireless Keyboard and Mouse combo is a great deal for a number of reasons. First, the K270 line has gotten a style upgrade over the last generation, replacing the light grey surround accent with a great, subtle dark grey one that looks more professional and higher quality, though the build is very similar, which I’ve found to be durable and great and overall rates a 10 on our meter.
Even though you could argue the Logitech MK270 Wireless build quality could be better with the flex, this wireless combo has a hat trick here: It’s durable yet light-weight, lasts a long time on a single set of batteries, and for the price is a great deal. And it comes with a mouse, too!
Second, speaking of price, the Logitech MK270 Wireless combo is a great deal at 20 dollars on sale, costing as much as some wireless mice on their own, with a nice matching style on the mouse.
And the third point, having a wireless keyboard and mouse won’t take up two usb ports on your computer, if your case only has two ports on the front you can still leave one free for usb drives. I’ll be awarding this a Techspin Gold award for really great features and quality, though I really wish the mouse was a bit bigger.
If you have small hands the Logitech MK270 Wireless should be a nice fit, though even Irene found it a bit small for her. If you wanted a more stylish keyboard with a larger mouse, you could get the Logitech MK520 combo, which comes with a matching M310 mouse, which I’ve already found fits larger hands much better.
Overall, the Logitech MK270 Wireless is a fantastic choice for home theater, going wireless for your desktop, or even using it with Android devices wherever you need a keyboard. The key to keep in mind is that this is a solid, durable keyboard that comes with a mouse for a cheap price. Sure you can get fancier or glossier ones, but this will get the job done and won’t break the bank.
